Privacy Policy

1. Calculator data: nothing leaves your browser

Every calculator's numbers are entered and computed entirely in your browser. If you're not logged in, none of it is sent to or stored on our servers — it lives only in your browser's local storage (so your inputs are still there next time), and disappears if you clear your browser data. If you use "Share result," your inputs are encoded directly into the link you copy — we don't see or store them either.

2. If you create an account

Creating an account is optional. If you do, we store:

• Your name and email address, and a securely hashed version of your password — or, if you sign in with Google, the token Google gives us to verify your identity (we never see your Google password).
• Session information (a session cookie, and basic technical metadata like IP address and browser user-agent) needed to keep you signed in and detect suspicious login activity.
• Any optional profile fields you choose to fill in, such as a display title, date of birth, or address.

3. Saved scenarios

If you click "Save to cloud" on a calculator result, we store that calculator's input values against your account so you can come back to them on another device. Nothing is saved unless you take that action yourself.

4. Donations

If you donate, payment is handled entirely by Stripe — we never receive or store your card number. We only know that a donation of a given amount was made.

5. Who we share data with

We use a small number of service providers to run Better Cost, only for that purpose:

• Neon — hosts our database.
• Resend — sends account emails (verification, password reset). No marketing emails.
• Cloudflare Turnstile — a bot-check on some forms; it doesn't track you across other sites.
• Stripe — processes donations.
• Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
• Cloudflare — hosts the Service and may log standard technical request data (e.g. IP address) as part of normal server operation.

We don't sell your data, and we don't use any third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

6. Cookies & local storage

We use one cookie to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage to remember calculator inputs, theme, and sidebar preferences on your own device. We don't use tracking or advertising cookies.

7. Keeping and deleting your data

You can edit or remove your profile details, delete individual saved scenarios, or delete your account entirely from your Profile page — deleting your account removes your saved scenarios, sessions, and account records.

8. Children

Better Cost isn't directed at children, and account creation requires being able to lawfully form a binding agreement (generally 18 years or older).

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the "last updated" date above will change when we do.
